Welcome to Galena Park Independent School District's Black History Month campaign!
Every February, we join the nation in celebrating Black History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the rich heritage, remarkable achievements, and enduring contributions of Black Americans to our nation's history and culture. This annual observance allows us to reflect on the resilience, creativity, and determination that have shaped our communities and our country.
Black History Month originated in 1926 as "Negro History Week," founded by historian Carter G. Woodson. It was expanded to a month-long celebration in 1976, recognizing that Black history is American history, integral to the fabric of our nation.
This year, we are proud to shine a spotlight on our own GPISD alumni who represent Black excellence and embody the spirit of Black history. These accomplished individuals have not only excelled in their respective fields but also serve as inspiring role models for our current students and the broader community.
Through our Alumni Spotlights, we will showcase the diverse talents, achievements, and contributions of Black GPISD graduates. Their stories demonstrate the power of education, perseverance, and community support in shaping successful futures.
Join us throughout the month as we celebrate these outstanding alumni, learn from their experiences, and honor the ongoing legacy of Black Americans in our district, our community, and our nation.
Together, let's embrace this opportunity to educate, inspire, and promote a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
