Instructional Aides

Galena Park Independent School District Instructional Aides must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) standards.
Each person recommended for employment in an instructional aide position must have:- Have an Associate's Degree or higher; or
- 48 hours of college credit; or
- Pass GPISD's Paraprofessional Assessment of Knowledge & Skills (PAKS) Test in the areas of Math, Reading, and Writing.
College Credit / Degree
Instructional Aide candidates who meet the college credit or degree criteria listed above must:

Instructional Aide candidates who do not meet the college credit or degree criteria will be contacted by an HR staff member to schedule a testing time to take the PAKS test. The navigation menu on the right side of this page contains the study guides to help you prepare for the test.
Steps:
- Apply for an Instructional Aide position by clicking the following link: and choosing a category
- When a position is available, you will be contacted by the campus for an interview.
- If you are offered the position, the HR Department will contact you to schedule a test appointment within a few days of the job offer.
- Use the Study Guides to prepare for the PAKS test.
- Take the test at your scheduled time.
- Once you pass your test, you will need to apply for your Educational Aide Certificate through TEA. Do not apply for the certificate until you are instructed to do so.
