Rodeo Art Contest

  • The Galena Park Independent School District’s Fine Arts Department hosts its annual Rodeo Art Contest each January. Students participating in art classes in grades Pre-K through 12 are eligible to enter. Work is adjudicated at the campus level with the top "blue ribbon" pieces advancing to the district round of judging where 10 elementary, 10 middle, and 25 high school pieces are chosen to advance to The Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM School Art Program's round of judging.

The HLSRTM School Art Committee judged the 45 GPISD Rodeo Art finalists and bestowed special recognition on 9 pieces of artwork selected as “Best in Show”, “Gold Medal”, or "Special Merit" recipients. The winning pieces are prominently displayed in the Hayloft Gallery at the NRG Center throughout the duration of the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM. Approximately 50 pieces of art from more than 100 public and private Houston area school districts, as determined by the final round of Grand Prix judging, are placed up for auctioned. Every participant in the School Art Program is a winner, receiving a certificate of merit signed by the show president, and either a finalist, blue, red or white ribbon for achievement.
