Our January Spotlight is Elba Duque, a 2009 Galena Park High School graduate. She also attended Woodland Acres Elementary and Woodland Acres Middle School. While in high school, Duque was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, LULAC and participated in the Color Guard/ Winter Guard. She was also Salutatorian of her graduating class.
After high school, Duque attended Texas A&M University to pursue her bachelor and master’s degree in civil engineering. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s in Science in 2013 and completed her Master’s in 2014.
She attributes her academic success to Mrs. Knox, 7th grade English teacher, and Mr. Waggoner, 11th grade AP US history and Government teacher, for helping her realize she is a smart, unique individual who has many talents to present to the world.
Duque is currently a structural engineer at H2B Inc., where she focuses on the structural design of commercial buildings. She is currently in the process of obtaining her Professional Engineer license which she hopes to complete by February 2018.
